Biography
Originally from Vienna, Austria, I moved to the UK to study Politics and International Relations at the University of Sheffield in 2006. After a short time out to work for an NGO, I completed my PhD at the University in Sheffield in 2015 and started working at SPAIS the same year.
My research explores climate change governance, climate justice, and just transitions, with a focus on power, representation, and equity at both local and global levels. I am particularly interested in how non-state actors shape decision-making, and how diversity, equality, and inclusion can be advanced within the environment sector.
As an educator, I bring these themes into the classroom. I convene Global Justice, which encourages students to understand how different forms of injustice intersect in global governance, and Philosopher Queens, which challenges the sexism and racism of the philosophical canon and re-centres marginalised thinkers.
Beyond my research and teaching, I am a survivor advocate for safer universities. I actively speak and write on sexual misconduct in academia, especially staff-student relationships, pushing for systemic change to ensure higher education is an environment where everyone can thrive. At the University of Bristol, I sit on the sexual misconduct oversight group and helped to formulate our staff-student relationship ban.

Teaching
My teaching focuses on creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment for my students At Bristol University, my practices are being shaped in part by being at a school with an excellent teaching reputation and being surrounded by talented teachers, but also by having my teaching talents fostered and celebrated by the University. For example, in 2019 I was selected to give a Best of Bristol lecture and was awarded the 'Student's Award for Outstanding Educator' in the FSSL at the teaching awards. In 2022 I won the award for 'Inspiring and Innovative Teaching' in the FSSL. I have been shortlisted for a teaching award in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022 (I was on maternity leave in 2020). Due to the teaching award rules, I'll be prevented from being shortlisted until 2025, though I still receive nominations and very much enjoy reading them.
