Organelle biology and protein homeostasis reflects a long-standing strength in understanding the inner workings of the cell at a molecular level.
Our focus is on how proteins are synthesised, folded, trafficked and degraded, and how these processes are organised within cellular compartments such as the endoplasmic reticulum, mitochondria and lysosomes.
By combining biochemical, structural and imaging approaches, we aim to define the principles that govern cellular organisation and function. This is fundamentally important biology, but it also has clear implications for disease, as defects in protein homeostasis underpin a wide range of pathological conditions.
