Access to the building

Access is gained by a key fob. The main entrance has automatic doors.

Bike storage

Bike storage is available outside of blocks A and B.

Bicycles must not be brought into the house/flats due to fire regulations. Any bicycle found in the building, including in bedrooms, will be removed.

This residence is self-catered, but food and drink packages are available to purchase.

Cleaning, recycling and rubbish

You are responsible for the day-to-day cleaning of your accommodation. The Student Cleaning Expectations and Guidance document has some helpful information on what cleaning products to use and how, so you know what to do to ensure your accommodation is cleaned well and that you are maintaining a healthy environment.

General waste and recycling storage is in the courtyard of blocks A & B, and C & D.

Fire assembly point at Timber Yard

The assembly point for Timber Yard is the junction of Silverthorne Lane, Gas Lane, and Kingsland Road. Upon exiting, head away from the Timber Yard main entrance toward the intersection.

Fire alarm testing

Fire alarms are tested every Tuesday at 11 am.

First aid

You should report an accident or near miss to the Student Support Centre so we can take steps to prevent it from happening again.

A near miss is an incident that could have resulted in an injury, such as slipping on the stairs or uneven flooring.

Your onsite accommodation team do not hold first aid boxes. They are unable to provide you with bandages, dressings, plasters or any medication.

Laundry facilities and costs

Prices:

  • Washing: from £4.70
  • Drying: from £2.60

Drying clothes

You should not dry wet clothes in your room. This causes condensation and mould which can cause health problems, including some potentially serious lung infections.

Lost keys or locked out

During office hours, we conduct security checks, issue keys, and complete the necessary paperwork. Out of hours, Security will handle access control and room entry. Key cutting and remaining paperwork will be completed on the following working day.

Lost property

We will store lost and found property for approximately 3 months

Parking

There is no parking available at this residence.

Pest problem

If you think there are pests present, report this to your Residential Facilities Coordinator as soon as possible. This includes rats, mice, cockroaches, bedbugs, fleas, wasps, bees, ants, moths, beetles, moles, foxes, pigeons, squirrels, and silverfish.

We have a contract for pest control with Rentokill.

Post

Letters will be placed in the students' mailboxes located in each block's reception area. All parcels are logged and stored securely in the main post room. Students are encouraged to use Kliq, our resident app, to receive parcel collection notifications and their secure collection codes.

Rent and tenancy dates

The dates of your tenancy and total accommodation fee can be found in your tenancy agreement in the Accommodation Portal.

Request a repair

You can request a maintenance job via app or came down to reception to report it.

Damage

If you break or damage something in your residence you need to report it to us.

If you don't tell us, it will be picked up at the end of your tenancy and you may be charged for the repair.

Security and safety

In case of an emergency, call 999 to contact the emergency services, including police and ambulance.

After calling 999, if you are on campus, call Security Services on +44 (0)117 331 1223.

CCTV operates on site. Security officers are on site from 5 pm to 9am.

Snow and ice

If it snows or there is ice on the ground, where possible, the maintenance team will ensure:

  • locations are checked and gritted in the mornings and evenings
  • more staff members are on-site at critical locations
  • roads and paths are treated with salt
    • this will be coordinated with Bristol City Council
  • suitable supplies are available; for example, temporary heaters, toilet rolls and cleaning chemicals.
