What to bring and what is provided

Make sure you have everything you need for your new home in Bristol. Some items are provided in your room and communal area so you won't need to bring these with you.

What to bring

Bedroom and bathroom

  • Bedding (duvet, duvet cover, pillows, pillowcases and sheets)
  • towels
  • toiletries
  • bath mat (for en suite accommodation)
  • laundry bag
  • clothes hangers
  • mains extension leads can be used, so long as the load on the extension is no more than 13 amps. Only one lead can be used per socket.

Bedding can be pre-ordered online up to 10 days before you arrive.

For Marlborough House residents, you do not need to bring bedding and towels as this is already provided.

Self-catered kitchen

  • Plates and bowls
  • mugs and glasses
  • cutlery
  • bottle/can opener
  • saucepans
  • frying pan.

For Marlborough House residents, you do not need to bring any kitchen equipment as this is already provided.

Half-board kitchen/pantry (catered residences)

Catered blocks have basic pantry areas, so you should bring fewer items.

  • Plates and bowls
  • mugs and glasses
  • cutlery
  • bottle/can opener.

Kitchen equipment can be pre-ordered online up to 10 days before you arrive.

Other things to bring

  • Cleaning products, including washing-up liquid, sponges, cloths and tea towels
  • stationery
  • TV licence.

If you wait until you arrive to buy general cleaning equipment or shared kitchen items, you can split the cost with your housemates. This will avoid having too many of the same item.

What is provided for you

Read our residence guides to find out what is provided in the rooms and communal areas.

An iron and ironing board is provided in all self-catered residences apart from New Bridewell. Irons are available from reception in The Courtrooms.

What to leave at home

You are not allowed to bring your own furniture into University accommodation due to fire safety regulations.

If you are planning to bring electrical items into your residence, read our electrical safety guidance.

The following items are not allowed in bedrooms:

  • heaters
  • cooking equipment
  • fridges/mini-fridges
  • flammable materials, such as curtains, wall hangings or foam-filled furniture
  • fireworks, candles, tea lights, lanterns, incense or any similar item
  • multi-socket adaptors.
