Adult ADHD referrals at the Students' Health Service
Find out the referral pathway for patients who are above 18 years old and seeking an assessment for possible ADHD.
Request an ADHD referral
If you think you may have ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and would like to be assessed, call the Students' Health Service or complete an online form for non-urgent medical problems.
You do not need to book a GP or nurse appointment to discuss a referral.
Our Office team will:
- complete a referral to the Avon and Wiltshire Partnership (AWP) ADHD Screening Service
- provide you with a Patient information pack (Office document, 34kB) about the screening process.
Private ADHD assessment
We recommend completing the AWP ADHD screening process first. Following the screening, you can still choose to pursue a private assessment if you wish.
After your referral
The AWP ADHD Screening Service will contact you directly. They will ask you to complete:
- a patient information form
- ADHD screening questionnaires.
These forms must usually be returned within 3 weeks. If you need support or reasonable adjustments to complete them, you can discuss with the AWP ADHD Screening Service.
Possible outcomes
The AWP ADHD Screening Service will tell you the outcome.
Further ADHD assessment recommended
If you meet specific priority criteria, you may be placed directly onto an AWP priority assessment pathway.
If not, the AWP ADHD Screening Service will advise on options for a full ADHD assessment, including:
- AWP services
- Right to Choose (RTC) providers.
ADHD not indicated
If you disagree with the outcome or would like further advice, call Students’ Health Service to discuss your options.
