The Centre for Academic Primary Care is involved in the undergraduate curriculum for all five years.
Clinical Academies
In Years 3, 4 and 5, teaching in general practice takes place in the clinical academies. The University of Bristol has seven clinical academies in:
- Gloucestershire (Gloucester and Cheltenham)
- Somerset (Taunton and Yeovil)
- Bath (North East Somerset)
- Swindon
- North Bristol (Southmead)
- South Bristol (UBHW Trust - Bristol Royal Infirmary)
- North Somerset (UBHW Trust - Weston General Hospital)
A clinical academy is an outpost of the medical school, a local college of clinical teachers. The purpose of the clinical academies is to deliver medical education to University of Bristol medical students, with one curriculum being delivered on many sites, led by an Academy Medical Dean, a senior clinician with designated sessions funded by the University of Bristol. The academies provide a wide range of clinical experience in all medical and surgical specialties, including community based teaching in general practice and psychiatry.
