While studying on the International Foundation Programme, student Shengjing Wang spoke to us about his experiences.
How do you find Bristol?
It’s a big city packed into a small shape. There is all the high technology here, but with a small city vibe. I especially like the fact that people here are very friendly.
Everything is within walking distance, especially when you live within the city centre.
What’s it like being an international student?
I find myself fitting in pretty well. I’m a social type, fitting in with people from other countries. I have more British friends than international.
You have to take the first step to break out of your comfort zone. It’s going to be worth it.
What do you like about the programme?
It gives me a year to settle in and get used to the vibe in the UK. This is especially important as I’d never left China before. It equips me with the special skills I will need for next year.
What advice would you give to new students?
It’s important for them to get used to the whole environment here, especially when it comes to people.
They should join at least two clubs – just to talk to people, especially local students.
