Scholarship winner: Ilham

After winning a £2,000 scholarship in 2015/16, Ilham spoke to us about studying smart, staying sane and appreciating Bristol’s beauty. She has since progressed to our BA Aerospace Engineering course.

What do you like most about the city?

My favourite landmark is the harbourside. My favourite restaurant is Tikka Flame, located in the heart of Bristol.

What would you do if you were in charge for a day?

I would suggest that everyone leave their books for a while, and take a moment to just stop and look around and appreciate the beauty of Bristol. We're so busy watching out for what's just ahead of us that we don't take time to enjoy where we are sometimes.

What do you like most about the International Foundation Programme?

The opportunity to meet diverse people from different backgrounds and cultures in one venue.

What’s the best thing you have learned?

To work smarter and not necessarily harder. My greatest self-improvement since the start of the programme is handing in assignments on time, maintaining my social life and keeping up with lectures all at once. And that’s all while maintaining my sanity.

What advice would you give new international students?

Go all in and try everything. Even activities you wouldn’t normally do, give it a go!

In three words, describe the Centre for English Language and Foundation Studies.

Scenic, alive and dynamic.
