Programme overview
This programme develops your knowledge and enhances your clinical skills through hands-on clinical experience in oral surgery. In addition to study days and clinical skills teaching, you will undertake a clinical attachment at the University of Bristol Dental School where you will treat oral surgery patients under the supervision of hospital specialists.
You will attend outpatient clinics and operate under close supervision in the oral surgery department of the University of Bristol Dental School.
Our programme has been specifically designed for dental practitioners who want to develop their skills in providing clinical oral surgery for their patients in practice.
Students who complete both this programme and the Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Conscious Sedation and Anxiety Management will be awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Oral Surgery, Clinical Conscious Sedation and Anxiety Management.
Fees for 2021/22
We charge an annual tuition fee. Fees for 2021/22 are as follows:
- UK/EU: part-time (one year)
- £9,700
- Overseas (including EU): part-time (one year)
- £13,300
- Channel Islands/IoM: part-time (one year)
- £12,200

Programme structure
There is a mixed delivery approach, including direct clinical supervision, didactic teaching, clinical skills sessions (eg suture simulation), and self-directed learning using virtual learning environment material. There are three core units. Assessment will be by written assignment, online e-assessment, written exam, clinical competency work-based assessments and portfolio.

Entry requirements
BDS (or equivalent United Kingdom General Dental Council-registrable dental qualification). At least one year's demonstrable postgraduate clinical experience.
