About the Centre for Inequalities and Social Welfare
The Inequalities and Social Welfare Research Centre is an interdisciplinary, world-class research centre which seeks to explore how poverty, inequality and social exclusion shape the lives of diverse groups, including children, young adults and families both nationally and globally.
Our research
Centre members undertake research across a wide range of disciplines and policy areas. They seek to:
- provide an integrative perspective on poverty, inequality and social exclusion and the mitigating role of welfare states
- understand and improve the everyday lives of children, young adults and families, including those who are care-experienced
Our research utilises a range of rigorous and innovative methods that informs policy and practice at national and international levels.
Collaboration and funding
The inter-disciplinary focus of our work is enhanced by our wide range of national and international collaborators and funders. We have a long-standing record of engagement with policy makers and influencers, including government bodies, voluntary organisations, charities and NGOs, as well as academic institutions, nationally and internationally.
Our work is funded from a range of sources, including research councils, local and national government and charities. We always welcome enquiries from prospective collaborators.
We are an inclusive, friendly and welcoming research centre, where staff and postgraduate students are supported in their research, study and professional development.
