About our research
Our distinctive strength lies in bringing together expertise from across the social sciences to understand complex social challenges and develop practical solutions. We combine innovative conceptual thinking with diverse research methodologies to tackle issues at local, national and global levels.
Collaboration is central to our research. We have a long tradition of working in partnership with policymakers, practitioners, communities and people with lived experience to co-produce research that makes a difference. Locally, we work with Bristol City Council, statutory services, charities and voluntary organisations, supporting the civic ambitions of the University of Bristol.
Internationally, our academics collaborate with partners in more than 60 countries, including universities, governments and international organisations. These collaborations ensure our research is informed by diverse perspectives and has impact across local, national and international contexts. Through our research, engagement and impact activities, we help shape policies and practices that improve people's lives.
We are also committed to fostering a vibrant international research community. The School regularly welcomes visiting early career and established researchers whose expertise complements that of our academic staff, strengthening opportunities for collaboration and enriching our research environment.
