Swan Implementation Group

The Swan Implementation Group (SIG) strives to drive transformational, structural, and cultural change to improve the representation, development, and experience of staff of all genders.

Chaired by Professor Palie Smart (Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor for Global-Civic Engagement), the Swan Implementation Group serves to build organisational competence in gender equality, acting as a body of expertise on sex and gender issues and adopting an intersectional approach. The SIG debates and advises the EDI Strategy Monitoring and Implementation Group (EDI SMIG) on gender-inclusive strategies and will highlight any inequalities. It also oversees the implementation of the University Athena Swan Action Plan.

I’m heartened by the commitment and fantastic work of our Schools and Faculties on gender equality. Progress has been made, yet there is more work to be done. The Swan Implementation Group provides further support and space to discussing gender equality issues, whilst being mindful of the importance of an intersectional approach. I am enjoying chairing this group of wonderful colleagues, who have invested so much of their time and energy to this important cause.
