Access to the building

A key fob provides access to the building.

Bike storage

There is a bike storage area in the courtyard.

Bicycles must not be brought into the house/flats due to fire regulations. Any bicycle found in the building, including in bedrooms, will be removed.

Bus shuttle service and free bus pass

The service will not operate on:

  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day
  • New Year's Day

On Christmas Eve, the last trip to Newport will be 5:30 pm and the last trip to Bristol will be 7 pm.

Free bus pass for shuttle service between Newport and Bristol

If you live in Newport Student Village, you are eligible for unlimited free shuttle bus travel to connect you to the University of Bristol Clifton Campus.

You will be notified of the shuttle service timetable and detailed service information via email.

The Newport shuttle service will operate Monday to Sunday, including bank holidays, from Sunday 17 September 2023 to Sunday 7 July 2024.

Free bus travel for friends and family

Friends and family can also use the shuttle bus service for free.

At the start of each month, you will be given 16 daily M Tickets, which you can distribute to your friends and family when required.

This quantity will be monitored against the demand for the service and could be amended during your tenancy.

Free bus pass for the Bristol Unibus U1 service

You can also have a free bus pass for the Bristol Unibus U1 service (term time only).

The Bristol Unibus U1 service links the North Residential Village to the campus and city centre.

How to download your free Newport and Bristol bus pass 

Two weeks before your arrival, you will receive an email with instructions on how to download your free bus pass and how to claim your free daily bus tickets for your friends and family.

The bus passes are called M Tickets and can be accessed via the First Bus M Ticket App. Alternative options will also be available if you don’t have a smartphone/compatible smartphone. You will also be given contact details of the team who can assist should you have any questions.

Catering options

This residence is self-catered, but food and drink packages are available to purchase.

Cleaning, recycling and rubbish

Keeping the flats clean, including the shared kitchen and living areas, is your responsibility.

General waste and recycling bins are provided in each flat.

Fire assembly point at Newport Student Village

The assembly point for Newport Student Village is at the bottom of the steps to George Street Bridge.

Fire alarm testing

Fire alarms will be tested on Mondays at 2 pm. You do not need to evacuate during a fire alarm test.

First aid

You should report an accident or near miss to the North Village Student Support Centre so we can take steps to prevent it from happening again.

Insurance

Basic personal belongings are insured as part of your accommodation contract.

Check your policy and arrange additional cover if required.

Wi-Fi connection

  1. Connect to ASK4 Wireless.
  2. Go to signup.ask4.com.
  3. Follow the signup process. You will need to provide your flat and room number.

Wired connection

  1. Connect the ethernet cable from the device to the wall socket.
  2. Go to signup.ask4.com.
  3. Follow the signup process. You will need to provide your flat and room number.

Add additional devices

  1. On the new device, log into myaccount.ask4.com.
  2. Select Enable this device.

If you do not have a web browser on your device, you can add your device's MAC address at myaccount.ask4.com to get connected instead.

Get the app

Install the ASK4 app to manage your account and get any help or support your need. Search 'ASK4 support' in the App Store or Google Play.

24/7 support

Laundry facilities and costs

Laundry facilities are located on the ground floor of the building. You can access the laundry room via the common room or block A.

Prices

  • Washing: £2.70
  • Drying: £1.30

You need to bring your own washing powder or tablets.

Drying clothes

You should not dry wet clothes in your room. This causes condensation and mould which can cause health problems, including some potentially serious lung infections.

Lost keys or locked out

If you get locked out, you need to go to reception with photo ID. Staff will verify you and give you access to your room.

If you have lost your key fob, you can buy a replacement from reception. There will be a replacement charge for a new fob.

Lost property

A lost property box is kept at reception. Items will be disposed of within three months if not claimed.

Parking

Car parking

There are no parking facilities at Newport Student Village.

E-scooters

The University does not permit the use of private e-scooters and they must not be brought into residences or stored in bike storage areas.

Post

Your address and where to collect post

Your postal address is:

Your name, room/flat number, Newport Student Village, Endeavour House, Usk Way, Newport, South Wales, NP20 2DZ.

Letters and parcels will be delivered to post boxes located in the block entrance, one post box per flat.

Recorded mail: a signature is required

All other post is held at reception. You will be emailed and asked to collect your parcel from reception. You can collect parcels 24/7.

Request a repair

Request a repair using the Campus Living Villages student portal. All repairs or maintenance requests must be logged formally online. 

Damage

If you break or damage something in your residence you need to report it to us.

If you don't tell us about an issue, it will be picked up at the end of your tenancy and you may be charged for the repair.

Rent and tenancy dates

The dates of your tenancy and total accommodation fee can be found in your tenancy agreement in the Accommodation Portal.

Social spaces and facilities

The common room is located on the ground floor, opposite the reception area. It contains a pool table, study room, sofas and TV.
