The University of Bristol Black Student Sport Project helps brings together Black and and students of mixed Black heritage through sport and physical activity, creating opportunities, community, and visibility.

About the Black Student Sport Project
Supported by our Sport and Inclusion Development Officer and student ambassadors, the Black Student Sport project aims to:
- Deliver sport and activity programmes that create inclusive spaces and strengthen community.
- Build representation and belonging to support sustained participation of the University's Black students.
- Celebrate and showcase the sporting achievements of Black students.
- Gain deeper insight on the participation gap and overall perception of sport and physical activity at the University of Bristol, through research and focus groups.

- Black History Month Social Run
In October 2025, the Bristol Run Series partnered with Black Trail Runners for the University of Bristol’s first Black History Month Run. Over 50 people joined the social 5K trail run at Ashton Court, celebrating movement, connection and community. - African & Caribbean Society 1v1 Charity Football Tournament
In May 2025, the University’s African & Caribbean Society hosted its first 1v1 football tournament, celebrating five years of the society. Sixteen players competed in the tournament, which also raised money for a local mental health charity.

How to get involved
There are plenty of ways to get involved in the project, whether you're a current University of Bristol student or member of staff.
We've worked closely with student groups throughout the 2025/26 academic year, and are excited to work with more in the future. If you're part of a group that would like to get involved, we'd love to hear from you! Opportunities include:
- Leading activities related to the project
- Collaborating on events
- Becoming a Student Ambassador, supporting project-related events on a regular basis

There are a number of ways University of Bristol can help support this project, such as:
- Volunteering at events
Help make events a success by taking on roles such as event promoter, event set-up, or general event support. Follow the Sport, Exercise and Health Engage community where volunteering opportunities will be shared with staff members throughout the year. - Sharing your insights
We welcome conversations with staff who are keen to offer input on the project's future direction. If you have experience in civic engagement, social impact, or inclusive programming, your perspectives could help shape the next phase of our work.
