Our Industry Partners
Our students engage with our partners from the start of their PhD through organised CDT activities such as our Induction Residential Week in September/October, our Year 1 taught units via seminars, masterclasses and placements, and throughout their research project via seminars, internships, placements, conferences and responsible innovation challenges.
Industry Student Showcases
Each academic year is launched with a one-day industry student showcase in Bristol (MShed) where we host over 25 industry organisations. The day offers the opportunity for our industry partners to
- Meet all our CDT students and discuss individual research projects
- Learn about the outcomes from our students' Responsible Innovation Challenge and outreach activities
- Discuss current industry cyber security issues
- Contribute to the IRW Challenge set for each new CDT student cohort
- Network with other industry leaders across field of cyber security
Responible Innovation Challenges
In conjunction with SME partner companies, all our students undertake at least two Responsible Innovation (RI) challenges whlist a Cyber Security CDT.
During these annual 2 - 3 Day RI challenges, groups of students use the learning gained from the Year 1 training and beyond to explore an issue relating to trust, identity, data ethics and privacy of relevance to one of several participating companies, analysed through the lens of RI. Students work with the company and use this understanding to develop a set of recommendations / solutions for the company, whilst themselves gaining real world experience of the RI challenges facing companies on the ground. Our RI Challenges have been themed around:
- New Innovations
- Data-rich Activities
- Digital Legacy
Industrial Placements
As part of our Year 1 taught programme, each of our CDT students complete a 2 -4 week placement with one of our industry partners. Students research interests are aligned with industry partners to offer an impactful and lasting relationship supported by student seminars to industry partner organisations, paid internships and ongoing involvement in PhD research projects.
Industrial Masterclasses
Many of our industry partners offer seminars, deep dive workshops and site visits to our CDT programme. These activities provide our students with a clear understanding of the current aspects of cyber security from a practitioner perspective, and thus enriching our students' PhD research projects.
