Adapted and accessible rooms
We have a variety of adapted and accessible accommodation to suit the needs of our students.
On this page is some information about our adapted and accessible rooms and which residences they are in. If you tell us on your accommodation application that you require an adapted or accessible room, we will contact you to discuss your individual requirements.
Accommodation for students who have restricted mobility or use a wheelchair
We have some wheelchair accessible rooms with adaptations such as power-assisted doors, wheelchair accessible lifts, low-level kitchen work surfaces, accessible storage and wet rooms equipped with shower chairs, handrails and emergency pull cords.
Wheelchair accessible rooms are available at:
- Hiatt Baker Hall (self-catered) - three accessible en suite rooms.
- Durdham Hall - one accessible room. It is important to note that this accommodation is suitable for a wheelchair user who is bringing their own vehicle or who has an electric wheelchair capable of managing a steep incline.
- Badock Hall (catered) - two accessible en suite rooms. Currently there are no power-assisted doors fitted in this residence apart from the door on the main building entrance.
Other rooms which are not wheelchair-accessible but are suitable for students with restricted mobility are available at:
Rooms for students who have sensory impairments
For students who have impaired hearing or deafness, we have rooms with alternative fire alarm systems such as flashing lights and vibrating pillows. These are available at:
For students who are registered blind, we have studio accommodation with a talking microwave, adapted hob and bump corners. This is available at:
We have other types of accommodation which may also be suitable, depending on your needs. The most important thing is that you tell us about your needs in your accommodation application so that we can make sure any accommodation offer we make you is suitable.
Access to the Bristol UniBus (U1) service
Students can travel to the University via the Bristol UniBus U1 student service. This is a dedicated bus service which frequently links the North Residential Village with the main campus and city centre. All undergraduates living in University residences are issued with a bus pass for this service as part of their accommodation fee.
This service is suitable for students who have sensory impairments, restricted mobility or who use a wheelchair. The bus stop in the North Village is conveniently located adjacent to Hiatt Baker.
Student resident parking permits
Students who need their own transport due to a disability can apply for a residence parking permit.
You will need to apply separately for a campus parking permit if required.
Disability services
The University's Disability Services is a confidential service providing information, advice and guidance to prospective and current disabled students.
