Bus travel

Bristol is a great city to get around by bus. Our main Clifton campus and student residences are linked to the city centre and other places by frequent bus services, many running around the clock.

First Bus is the city's main bus operator, with many services stopping close to our main Clifton campus.  Abus also run services around Bristol and beyond.

Students and staff can benefit from discounted fares on bus services across Bristol and further afield. Visit our bus fares page.

Staff can find detailed information about COVID travel and transport on the University's COVID sharepoint site (a private group).
Students can find detailed information about COVID travel and transport on University's Campus safety webpage.

For assistance planning public transport journeys, please visit Traveline or Travelwest.

Operated by First Bus, the Bristol Unibus services connect students and staff between the residences at Stoke Bishop, our main Clifton campus, the city centre and our Langford Campus. Here is a short film outlining measures in place with regard to keeping passengers safe during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Bristol Unibus U1 - Stoke Bishop Halls of Residence to the City Centre, via University Clifton Campus

U1 Christmas Holiday service: Sat 19 Dec 2020 to Sat 9 Jan 2021

A special U1 Christmas Holiday service is operating this year so that students remaining in halls of residence over the holiday period have access to the U1 bus service. The service will be operating Mon to Sat (except Public Holidays) to a 30 minute frequency between 9am and 7pm. U1 Uni Year tickets are valid for this service. Staff and members of the public can also travel on the service by purchasing tickets in the usual way. See Bristol Unibus wesite for exact timetable details.

The U1 resumed operation on the 21 September 2020, and the timetable was amended on 23 November 2020 to better reflect the unique passenger demand this academic year

Addiitonal U1 journeys are operating this academic year to support the social distancing requirements on public transport (vehicles can only carry 50% of passengers at the moment). These additional journeys will be withdrawn when social distancing is no longer required and the U1 vehicles can carry 100% of passengers again.

The Unibus U1 service operates to a 4 - 10 minute frequency between 7.45am and 11pm Monday to Saturday, and a 20-30 minute frequency to 9.30pm on Sunday - term time only.

At off-peak times and weekends (daytime only), the U1 route extends from our Clifton campus to the city centre.

Students living in a University-allocated accommodation (except postgraduates in postgraduate-only residences) will receive a free bus pass (mTicket) for unlimited travel on the Unibus U1 service. Other students can buy tickets or passes for the U1. Recipients of the free U1 bus pass can upgrade their pass to include the entire First Bristol Zone for just £50 and use any First or metrobus route across Bristol. See Bristol Unibus for details

The U1 can be used by students, staff and the general public.

The U1 will operate as a Cashfree service during 2020/2021.
