E Chern's story

E Chern shares their experience of starting university, settling in and finding your rhythm at the University of Bristol.

E Chern's experience

"Starting my Master's in Research in Cellular and Molecular Medicine at the University of Bristol has been a highly rewarding experience! When I checked into Print Hall accommodation, it was completely smooth and hassle-free. In my first month, I attended the Welcome Fair at the Downs. It was a real highlight, where I found lots of different clubs and societies and joined the ones that felt right for me.

I would say cooking is the main thing that differs from home, but thanks to the supermarket choices, it is cheap and easy, particularly when you have discount coupons from apps. Here, you can meet so many people from different backgrounds and cultures. I joined the Malaysian Cultural Society, which helps me feel at home. Through various social events and festivals, I met a lot of new friends.

My main advice for newcomers would be to go out and explore, as there are so many opportunities and support available throughout student life. I think Bristol is a great city to live in and gain real-life experience!"
