Valeria's Story

"Hi, I’m Valeria and I am a first year Chemistry student. As I’ve just started uni and begun living on my own, managing money has been something new I’ve been learning to handle.

To plan ahead, I worked during the holidays in previous years to save up for now. I’ve found discount apps like UNiDAYS, and supermarket apps such as Lidl Plus and Asda Rewards, really helpful. Especially in my first few weeks when I had to buy essentials like bedding and kitchen basics.

I’m currently looking for part-time work and have found the Careers Service really helpful for finding flexible roles.

Coming from a Mexican background, I tend to cook at home rather than eat out, which saves me quite a lot each week. If you’re worried about money, remember that support is available, and you’ll soon find what works best for you. "
