Caleb's story

Caleb shares their experience of cultural life, societies and finding community.

Caleb's experience

"Moving to an area with significantly less diversity was a real culture shock for me. Being one of the few people of colour on my course made the transition even more challenging, especially during first year when everything already feels new and overwhelming. I struggled to find cultural shops, foods, and familiar comforts from home, which made me feel even more out of place. It wasn’t just about adapting academically but also adjusting socially and emotionally. At times, it was difficult to fully connect with others or feel like I truly belonged. These experiences made me realise how important representation and cultural familiarity are when settling into a new environment"
