The Student Advisory Group (SAG)

How the SAG supports students

The SAG helps improve the University experience for all students.

However, the focus is:

• understanding and improving the experiences of students who may face additional barriers in higher education
• the undergraduate home student experience.

Its work contributes to the University’s Access and Participation Plan (APP), which explains how we support specific groups of students to improve:

• access
• success
• progression.

Who can join the SAG

Any student can apply to join the SAG, you do not need any previous experience.

We are especially interested in hearing from:

• mature students
• students from racial minority backgrounds
• care-experienced or estranged students
• students with disabilities or mental health conditions
• students who received free school meals
• students from IMD quintile 1 and 2 areas
• students from lower socio-economic backgrounds
• Bristol bursary recipients
• local students from Bristol and surrounding areas.

What SAG members do

As a member of the SAG, you’ll take part in workshops once a month from October to May, usually on Wednesdays from 3.30 pm to 5 pm.

In these sessions, you’ll work with staff on discussion-based projects and topics that affect students. Your ideas will help shape changes across the University.

Example activities include:

• reviewing marketing or email communications sent to students
• sharing feedback on outreach programmes
• exploring how the curriculum can be made more accessible.
