Register with Student Health

Before you can use the Students’ Health Service you must register with us.

Before you register

Private and 'right to choose' shared care

We may not be able to prescribe your specialist medication (for example ADHD/Gender medication). Before you register, check if your medication is available.

You can also email bnssg.shsadmin@nhs.net:

1.Title the email “New Registration – Shared care query”
2. Include:

    • your name
    • mobile phone number
    • details of your medication
    • your diagnosis
    • whether you have an NHS, 'right to choose' or private diagnosis.

We will let you know if it’s likely we’ll be able to prescribe your medication.

Use our postcode checker to see if you can register with us.

If you live outside of the practice area, you should register with another GP practice. Be aware that not all halls of residence are in the catchment area for the practice.

Register with us

After your registration has been processed, you'll receive a text to confirm. You can then book an appointment or ask for non-urgent advice online.

Use the NHS App or Patient Access to view your health record, book appointments and order repeat prescriptions. To activate Patient Access, you also need to visit Student Health and bring a form of ID so we can give you an activation code.

Registration waiting times

Each year we process over 6,000 new registrations as students arrive at university. We employ extra staff to help us with this, but it often takes until the end of the first term to fully register everyone.

If you're a newly registered patient in the first term you may not be able to get online access until after Christmas. You'll still be able to book appointments by phone or in person.
