Sport: Hockey
Degree: Economics
I’m Joe Jenkinson, a current first year Gold Scholar at the University of Bristol where I play in the national league Conference West. Starting at age seven, I worked my way up through the age groups, having the opportunity to play with other passionate and driven players.
My proudest achievement so far was being selected for the England U16s, 2020-2021 programme. I earned several caps against Wales and Scotland, scoring a brace in my second game. Singing the national anthem in front of friends and family was a huge honor and an unforgettable experience. Most importantly, I met so many incredible players and coaches throughout the international pathway. Having a network of likeminded athletes is always reassuring.
Hockey has given me so many opportunities, I think my favorite was being an overseas player in Christchurch, New Zealand. I represented Harewood Hockey Club in the Canterbury Premier League amongst many other New Zealand internationals. I was able to compete at the highest level whilst making many new friendships and exploring a truly amazing part of the world.
I have many ambitions for the future seasons I will have at Bristol; my main goal is to be selected for the England U21s and play in a European Championships one day. Earning a senior international cap is my ultimate goal. I also want to help the Men’s 1 earn promotion to Super BUCS, playing against the highest level of competition in the country. Ultimately, I want to pursue my dream of becoming a senior international whilst playing overseas.
