About Us
The courses at the University of Bristol are delivered in partnership with North Bristol NHS Trust, which includes a large regional neurosciences and major trauma centre.
The course team comprise highly experienced academic and clinical staff, all committed to evidence-based practice in Clinical Neuropsychology and clinically relevant academic research.

Professor Kit Pleydell-Pearce
The Academic Director, Professor Pleydell-Pearce is located in the School of Psychological Science. He is Professor of Clinical Neuropsychology Education and Academic Director of the Clinical and Applied Neuropsychology programmes. After ten years working in the NHS as a researcher, he joined the University of Bristol. His research interests include EEG and especially slow cortical potentials, and currently he is focusing on new approaches to the measurement of well-being.

Professor Martin Bunnage
The Clinical Director, Professor Martin Bunnage, is a Clinical Neuropsychologist who, in addition to his University role, is the Head of Neuropsychology at North Bristol NHS Trust, and also works in private medico-legal practice. He trained in the UK and Australia and has an entry on the British Psychological Society’s Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.

Professor Ingram Wright
The Practice Director, Dr Ingram Wright, is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and Lead for Psychological Health Services in a large NHS Trust. He is Clinical Lead for Regional Paediatric Neurosciences services. He is also Chair of the British Psychological Society’s Professional Standards Unit for the Neuropsychology Division. He has an entry on the British Psychological Society’s Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychologists.

Dr Alexander Anderson
The Deputy Academic Director, Dr Alex Anderson is a lecturer in the School of Psychological Science whose research interests typically utilise EEG to explore and index perceptual and cognitive function. He has worked on large-scale multi-site RCTs looking at behavioural interventions for improving public health.

Dr Laura Hanley
Clinical Tutor on the MSc Applied Neuropsychology and EBN Unit lead for Applied and Clinical students, Dr Laura Hanley is also a Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology based within the Neuropsychology Department at North Bristol NHS Trust. Her research interests are understanding health inequalities experienced by people with neurological conditions and the cognitive changes that occur during menopause.

Dr Mattia Monastra
Mattia is a Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology and Trauma with over 6 years of experience in adult neuropsychological assessment, rehabilitation and therapy. He qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 2018 and is expected to gain entrance onto the Specialist Register of Clinical Neuropsychology in 2023. Mattia is adaptable, passionate, and person-centred in his approach. He draws on a range of models, including Existential Therapy, Metacognitive Therapy and Trauma Focussed CBT, to support adjustment and coping with the effects of neurological and health conditions. Mattia's interests are wide and varied. He works in the NHS as a Specialist Clinical Psychologist within the Major Trauma Team and the inpatient Neuropsychology team. He is a lecturer for the Neuropsychology courses at the University of Bristol, where his role includes teaching and research. He also works privately as a neuropsychologist and therapist.

Dr Laura Contu
Dissertation Unit director, Dr Laura Contu is a Neurobiologist. Before moving to a teaching focussed career at the University of Bristol, she ran preclinical research projects in the Neuroscience field, investigating the neurobiological basis and behavioural correlates of drug addiction, Alzheimer’s disease, and maternal obesity. She is now interested in pedagogical research and behavioural addictions.

Dr Alex Marsh
Dr Alex Marsh is a visiting lecturer on the neuropsychology programmes and his role is primarily in supporting DClinPsy collaboration. He is a Clinical Psychologist & Associate Fellow of the BPS. His research interests are in fMRI, epilepsy surgery and he has worked on several RCTs examining interventions in neurological populations. Alongside his university role, he works in Paediatric Neuropsychology at Bristol Children’s Hospital, is Project Lead for Mental Health Transformation in Epilepsy for the Paediatric Neurosciences South ODN (NHS England), and works in private practice. He has additional roles as Interim Chair of the Psychology Research SDG for UHBW NHS Trust; Honorary Lecturer on the Cardiff DClinPsy; Member of the BPS Assistant Psychologist Practice Group; was formerly Director for Trainees & board member of ACP UK. In these roles, he has authored national professional guidance on training in clinical psychology & worked on competency framework development for clinical practice.
