Lizzy showing an attendee of Skirting Science the QKD demonstration
The team, led by CQP PhD student Lizzy Hemsley, gave an excellent presentation on Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), an exciting form of quantum cryptography. A particularly colourful demonstration enabled pupils to participate in very active 'toy' experiments to grasp the science and basic concepts behind the scheme. The students were then able to use this new found understanding on our home built QKD demonstration system - an optical implementation of the scheme designed specifically to help newcomers to gain a deeper understanding of this fascinating topic.
The talk concluded with a very popular section - where the students were able to send their very own guaranteed quantum secure message across the very(!) public channel, twitter!
