Postgraduate research programmes
The UK is a world leader in health research and the University of Bristol offers outstanding postgraduate research training. We offer high-quality collaborative translational and population health research opportunities using a wide range of techniques - from molecular biology to epidemiology.
Postgraduate research opportunities: PhD, MD, MSc by Research
Postgraduate research at the University of Bristol involves independent study and investigation, culminating in a thesis that contributes original knowledge to the field.
Our Population Health and Clinical Sciences programmes facilitate study across the whole spectrum of research activity in our School, and denote which department hosts the research rather than the subject of study.
- Postgraduate research: Population Health SciencesWe aim to improve the health and wellbeing of society and reduce inequalities. We evaluate novel clinical and public health interventions to see if they work, how they work, and whether they are affordable.
- Postgraduate research: Clinical SciencesOur postgraduates are a mix of medically-trained and basic scientists, based in high-quality research and clinical settings. You will undertake laboratory-based, translational and applied research. The focus is on clinical research, a significant part of which translates to clinical trials.
- MRes Health Sciences ResearchThe MRes Health Sciences Research programme provides prospective health scientists with a firm foundation in research methodology. It is ideal for clinical or bioscience graduates, or for medical, veterinary and dental students taking advantage of an intercalating year.
- Join us as a visiting postgraduate studentWe welcome visiting postgraduate students who would like to join us as part of a collaboration, to learn about a specific technique or topic, or simply to gain some research experience in a different environment.
