We focus on improving the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of thoracic malignancies, with a primary emphasis on early detection, personalised treatment and risk reduction in lung cancer screening and mesothelioma.

Optimising implementation, maximising the effectiveness and increasing participation in the national lung cancer screening programme.
Developing and evaluating interventions to increase smoking cessation uptake and success and reduce inequalities in tobacco-related harm.
We draw on expertise within the University of Bristol from the Integrated Cancer Epidemiology Partnership (MRC Integrative Epidemiology Unit) and the Translational and Applied Research Group (School of Psychology and Neuroscience). We work within Bristol NHS Foundation Trust to embed research directly into front-line NHS services to ensure rapid translation into practice.
Public and Agency Partners facilitate community reach, data at scale, and national adoption: Mesothelioma UK, Cancer Research UK, British Thoracic Society, Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, International Agency for Research on Cancer. External Academic Partners include University of Glasgow, University of Leeds, Queen Mary University Hospital (QMUH) and NIHR Biomedical Research Centres at Manchester & University College London Hospital (UCLH). Industry collaborations focus on mesothelioma endotyping and diagnostic validation.
