Clinical Sciences
Supported by funders such as the NIHR, the Medical Research Council, and charities such as the Wellcome Trust and British Heart Foundation, our research delivers pioneering treatments for patients and groundbreaking developments in discovery science, across fields including cardiovascular sciences, renal medicine, musculoskeletal health, and a range of other key areas.
Key areas of research
- CardiovascularThe integration of clinical, translational and discovery cardiovascular science is a major thrust of our research, as well as our cardiovascular PG taught programmes.
- Diabetes and endocrinologyOur scientific and clinical research spans molecules, cells and whole organisms to populations, which translates into improved patient care.
- Musculoskeletal Research UnitOur clinical research aims to improve health, wellbeing and patient care for those living with musculoskeletal conditions.
- PaediatricsOur research related to child care with a particular emphasis on child vaccination, paediatric rheumatology, and child mortality.
- Bristol RenalWe aim to improve the management, treatment and prevention of renal disease, by integrating laboratory and clinical research. Our research is focused across 8 main areas: genetics, glomerular cell biology, glomerular physiology, surgical research, translational research, vascular biology, clinical trials, and health services research.
- Academic Respiratory UnitWe design, lead and deliver research into a wide range of respiratory conditions, with a particular focus on clinical studies and trials.
- OphthalmologyWe are dedicated to improving health care for patients by implementing basic science advances and transferring laboratory acquired knowledge to clinical practice.
- Obstetrics and GynaecologyWe conduct research across a broad range of Women’s Health issues including: Maternal medicine, Stillbirth, Bereavement care and Reproductive health.
- Tissue Engineering and Regenerative MedicineWe are conducting state-of-the-art research using stem cells, organoids, biomaterials, and biotechnologies to grow artificial living tissues and develop new regenerative therapies.
