Interstitial lung disease

 

 

The ILD team studies a range of fibrotic and inflammatory lung diseases, specifically idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, connective tissue disease, and hyper-sensitivity pneumonitis, focusing on the diagnosis and prognostication of ILD. The Bristol ILD service manages the largest ILD patient population in South West England, providing a strong platform for clinical and translational research. Through our research we hope to drive the development of new treatments, improve patient care and help inform decision making on health policies.

We work within Bristol NHS Foundation Trust to embed research directly into front-line NHS services to ensure rapid translation into practice.

Patient engagement is supported through links with Asthma + Lung UK (formerly British Lung Foundation), British Thoracic Society, Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis and Sarcoidosis UK. External Academic Partners include University of Bath, University of Exeter and University of Hull. Industry collaborations primarily include pharmaceutical companies developing anti-fibrotic therapies, biotechnology companies developing biomarkers, and medical imaging & AI companies.
