Research Project Summary:
My PhD will focus on the mechanistic relationship between sleep and smoking behaviour. I hope to develop a digital intervention targeting sleep in quitting smokers to aid cessation. My project includes experimental, HCI and machine learning methods to further understand the relationship between sleep and smoking, ultimately informing the design of a novel digital intervention.
General Profile:
After graduating from Aberystwyth University with an honours degree in Sport and Exercise Science, I pursued a career in public health by gaining an MSc in Physical activity in Public Health from the University of Gloucestershire. While completing my MSc I worked as a research assistant working on mental health and physical activity projects and as smoking cessation adviser for the NHS. Upon completion of my MSc I gained employment as a lecturer at the University of Worcester for 12 months and left for a research position in the department of Exercise, Nutrition and Health Sciences here at Bristol University working on physical activity interventions targeting children and adolescents. I then moved departments to the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group where I managed a feasibility study implementing a caffeine reduction intervention embedded in stop smoking services.
My research interests include behaviour change in physical activity and smoking cessation. I’m particularly interested in creating digital health interventions to alter negative health behaviours.
