Creative and cultural industries

Our research on creative and cultural industries spans the past, present and future and extends worldwide. We recognise the civic role of the creative arts and the contribution it can make to social justice.

Our Centre for Creative Technologies (CCT) and Centre for Black Humanities (CBH) exemplify this. CCT incorporates both the Bristol Common Press, exploring historical practices and global cultures of print, and the Bristol Digital Game Lab focuses on what games of the future can do for society. CBH fosters research on the artistic and intellectual work of people of African descent and reaches broad audiences through film screenings, performances and partnerships with local communities.

Based in Bristol, a UNESCO City of Film known for its innovative creative sector, our researchers collaborate with a range of creative and culture sector partners including through our investment in Pervasive Media Studio. The University also hosts significant Cultural Collections, including the Theatre Collection designated outstanding by the Arts Council England.
