University Research Institutes
The University of Bristol has four distinct University Research Institutes (URIs) that work together to stimulate new interdisciplinary research, and foster inclusivity, creativity and innovation in their networks. Each Institute has a specific focus.
- Brigstow InstituteA community of researchers carrying out equitable research and knowledge creation through methods of co-production, interdisciplinarity, creative processes and critical making.
- Cabot Institute for the EnvironmentWorking together to understand and tackle global environmental challenges.
- Elizabeth Blackwell Institute for Health ResearchDriving innovation in health research, to improve health for all.
- Jean Golding Institute for Data and AIA hub for data and artificial intelligence, supporting researchers from all disciplines to explore new questions, deepen insight, and drive innovation and impact in responsible ways.
Working together to solve global problems
The Institutes also work together to support and develop interdisciplinary research that focuses on living well on our planet that is grounded in equity, resilience and shared futures.
Research Institutes joint mission
The Institutes’ joint mission is to build capacity, support early-stage research and facilitate policy engagement grounded in a solutions-focused, interdisciplinary approach that examines how human interactions with the natural environment affect the health and wellbeing of people and life on earth.
Working with staff and students
For academic staff and postgraduate research students, the Institutes offer networking and funding opportunities, cross-URI training and development, and an excellent research culture and environment, to support new research ideas and new ways of working on research.
