Three proposal titles were selected by the Water management group to become funded research projects that we hope will soon benefit the wider water community.
Extracting power from the tides is an attractive proposition given dwindling fossil fuels and the relatively high tidal ranges within UK coastal waters. Estimates show that the tidal flow along the Severn estuary alone produces 10GW, which if fully extracted would account for 20% of UK power requirements. Through the use of a pilot survey of households in India, this study is going to investigate the heterogeneity in the level of hygiene across households using survey questions and the aquatest device. This project uses the Water Strategic Initiative Funds for preliminary research in the hope of developing a larger proposal for completion of the research programme. The overall aim of the project is to analyse the impacts of the 1991 National Clean Water Programme in Mexico, a nationwide large-scale effort that led to sharp increases in access to chlorinated water and sanitation....
