Dr. Jim Freer is a senior lecturer in hydrology in the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol. He is an internationally recognised expert in catchment scale hydrological model development and the quantification and reduction of prediction uncertainties in hydrology and water quality. His research is leading international research efforts that consider a synergistic approach to improving models of environmental processes using model evaluation and how we diagnose effectively the capabilities and limitations of our models to benchmark our current understanding. Jim has a range of techniques for providing quantitative tools for characterising catchment processes, flexible hydrological model structures that can be used to explore model complexity and functional response from landscape typologies and uncertainty analysis methods for exploring the predictive capabilities of model behaviour.
