Research Interests
My research focuses on fatherhood in relation to the construction of intimacy and meanings of work. I am particularly concerned with using contemporary fatherhood to explore the negotiation of time, work-life balance and definitions of involvement. More broadly my interests encompass the sociology of the family, intimacy, the sociology of work, gender, social stratification and qualitative and quantitative research methods.
Teaching
- Undergraduate: Doing Social Research, Social Identities and Divisions, Intimacy and Personal Life
- Postgraduate: MSc dissertation and PhD supervision. I am interested in applications from prospective PhD students in the areas of fatherhood, intimacy, family life, personal relationships, meanings of time use, and work.
