States and societies now confront security threats that go beyond conventional armed force.
These new insecurities move from economic inequalities and political conflicts among peoples through to natural disasters and the impact of humans and technology on the environment.
Such events do not exist in isolation. They speak to a radically interconnected and emergent world. The old sureties of national frontiers have collapsed in the face of novel forms of planetary circulation and emerging global risks.
At the same time new spatial frontiers and interventions, together with attempts to govern future political and environmental uncertainty, have appeared to offset and manage these risks.
The Global Insecurities Centre fosters interdisciplinary research, networking and events in support of academic debate and policy interventions addressing the new insecurities, radical interconnectivities and novel vulnerabilities that characterise the emerging global order.
