Women and Non-Binary People in Mathematics

The school actively supports women and non-binary people in mathematics and holds regular events.

New undergraduates lunch

Each October first-year female and non-binary undergraduates in mathematics are invited to a welcome lunch with female members of staff and postgraduate students. This is a chance for the students to meet each other and also to see who the women and non-binary people in mathematics are so that they feel able to come and ask for advice later during their degree if necessary.

Third and fourth year undergraduates afternoon tea

Each year upper-year female and non-binary undergraduates are invited to tea and cakes with female members of staff and graduate students. This is a chance to talk about careers options and opportunities for graduate study.

Opportunities for the Future postgraduate conference

Each year the School runs a national postgraduate conference for women and non-binary people in Mathematics to encourage strong female and non-binary students to consider PhDs and mathematical careers.

Women and Non-Binary People in Mathematics lunch

At 1pm every Tuesday during term-time all women and non-binary people in the School of Mathematics are encouraged to meet over lunch. This includes all female and non-binary staff and graduate students and is a chance to meet staff and postgraduate students they would not normally encounter.
