Honorary Degrees Committee

The Honorary Degrees Committee is a committee of the Board of Trustees. The committee recommends candidates for honorary degrees and honorary fellowships.

Responsibilities and terms of reference

The Honorary Degrees Committee is one of the committees of the Board of Trustees.

It considers nominations for:

  • national honours
  • honorary degrees
  • honorary fellowships.

Membership

As a group, the committee members are empowered to make decisions. They can take advice from others attending the meeting.

The Honorary Degrees Committee has up to 8 members.

  • Mr Jack Boyer, Chair of the Board of Trustees (Chair)
  • Professor Evelyn Welch, Vice-Chancellor and President
  • Sir Paul Nurse, Chancellor
  • Professor Dame Melanie Welham, Independent Trustee
  • Professor Natalie Edwards, Academic Staff Trustee
  • Mrs Jilly Huggins, Professional Services Staff Trustee
  • Miss Arta Kurti, Student Trustee

Attendees

The following individuals may attend meetings and offer advice to committee members:

  • Executive Director of Global Engagement
  • Assistant Director of DARO - Engagement, Global Engagement
  • Chief Operating Officer and Registrar
  • Director of Governance and University Secretary

They do not have the authority to make committee decisions and are not eligible to vote in meetings.
