BSc Biomedical Sciences with Study in Industry

2027 entry

Course summary

This four-year degree is similar to BSc Biomedical Sciences but will give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in Biomedical Sciences in commercial or other research as an employee during your third year. This may be in a biotech or pharmaceutical company, or a research institute in the UK or abroad. Placements are normally paid and will give you valuable experience working at an external research laboratory.

Entry to the Study in Industry course is by transfer after you have secured a placement. Applications are usually made during the summer after your first year or during the second year. The rest of the degree course surrounding the industrial placement year will be the same as for the standard BSc Biomedical Science course. Please see the BSc Biomedical Sciences course pages for information on the course content and teaching style.

Our students are very well equipped to secure placements, in part because of their extensive practical experience during the first and second years. In addition we offer support to all students who are interested in pursuing an industrial placement, including guidance with identifying opportunities, preparing your application, CV writing and practice interviews.
