University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships: frequently asked questions
Who can apply for University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships, and which programmes are eligible?
To be eligible for the University's postgraduate scholarships, you must:
- have applied to any eligible one-year, full-time taught master's programme, or one of our eligible two-year programmes: MSc Social Work and MA Law
- start your master's programme in September 2025
- be classed as an overseas student for fee-paying purposes
- not already be getting other funding which, alongside a Bristol scholarship, would add up to more than the full cost of tuition fees
- meet or exceed the entry requirements as stated by the University of Bristol.
Do I need to have applied for a programme of study at the University of Bristol before I apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships?
Yes. You need to have already applied to study at the University of Bristol starting in 2025 to apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships.
You will need to include your student ID on the application form. We will not be able to consider your application without it.
Do I need to have an offer to study at the University of Bristol to be able to apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships?
No. As long as you meet the eligibility requirements and you have submitted an application to study at the University of Bristol, you can apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships. This applies even if you have not yet received an offer to study.
I am applying for more than one programme at the University of Bristol. How should I complete the international scholarships application form?
If you have applied to study more than one programme at the University of Bristol, you will be able to select multiple programmes on your application form.
What documents do I need to apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships?
You do not need to submit any documentation when applying for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships.
You just need to complete the online international scholarships application form after you have submitted an application to study at the University of Bristol.
What is a student ID?
This is the number you received when you made an application to study at the University of Bristol.
If you are a postgraduate Global Transfer Programme student, you will receive a Student ID in your welcome email when you apply to the Global Transfer Programme. If you are unsure of your Student ID, contact the International Partnerships team at global-transfer-students@bristol.ac.uk.
Is there an age restriction for applying for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships?
No. There is no age restriction for students applying for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships.
Can my deposit deadline be extended if I’m applying for a scholarship?
Part-funded scholarships (including Think Big, Think Big Career Accelerator and GREAT) are not eligible for deposit deadline extensions.
Fully funded scholarships that include living costs (including Chevening, Commonwealth Shared Scholarships, Marshall and Fulbright) may be eligible for deposit deadline extensions in some circumstances.

If I have applied to study a PhD programme, am I able to apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships?
No. Unfortunately, the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships are only available for eligible postgraduate taught master's programmes.
If I have applied to study a PGCE programme, am I able to apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships?
No. Unfortunately, the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships are only available for eligible postgraduate taught master's programmes.
If I have applied for more than one University scholarship, can I still I apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships?
By completing the application form, you will be considered for all scholarships and bursaries for which you are eligible.
You can only accept one tuition fee scholarship from the University.
You may still be eligible for a scholarship or bursary. This can be awarded along side a tuition fee scholarship.
Do the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships cover living expenses or air fare?
All University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships are towards tuition fees only and will not cover any living expenses, air fare, or other expenses.
You may still be eligible for a scholarship or bursary. This can be awarded in addition to a tuition fee scholarship.
Under UKVI regulations, you will need to show that you have sufficient funds to support yourself while studying in the UK. Find out more about money required for a student visa application.

Do I need to meet any extra English language requirements to be able to apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships?
No. You will not need to meet any extra English language requirements to apply for the University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarships.
You will need to meet any conditions of the academic offer for your programme of study to successfully receive a University of Bristol international postgraduate scholarship. This may include English language requirements.
Will I receive individual feedback on my application if I am unsuccessful?
No. Unfortunately, due to the large number of applications we receive, we are unable to provide individual feedback to applicants.
Will a list of successful applicants be published on the University's website?
No. We will contact all applicants directly by email. We do not publish the total number of allocated awards.
Can the University give me an early decision?
No. The University must follow the correct procedure to make sure that all applicants are considered fairly. Outcomes will be shared according to the timeline on our international scholarships webpage.
