Peace, Conflict, Violence

As illustrated by the cases of Ukraine, Palestine, Colombia, Myanmar, and Sudan, the consequences of armed conflicts remain devastating. Their impacts extend from direct civilian casualties, internal displacement, and human rights violations to regional and international security threats such as humanitarian crises and refugee flows. The group is based in the Global Insecurities Centre.

Our group

Our research group examines the complex dynamics of peace, conflict and violence, their challenges and impacts, as well as the ways state and non-state actors grapple with them. Particularly, we are concerned with the study of why and how armed conflict occurs, broad aspects of collective violence and how peace can be achieved.

The group consists of academics at different career stages, including PhD students from a number of disciplines, including politics, international relations and sociology. We also seek to take a wider interdisciplinary approach, engaging with colleagues from across the University of Bristol and other academic institutions.

Our aims / motives

The research group brings together academics, practitioners and PhD students specialising in peace, conflict and violence for a varied programme of events and seminars across the academic year. We also seek to provide a space to share ideas, receive feedback and engage with peers to develop the school’s research in this area.
