Chaos Lecture: 'Looking for needles in haystacks: two ways to try and break the Standard Model of Particle Physics' - 16th November

Come along to the fourth of our Chaos Lectures; a series of talks that will be held on Thursdays at 6pm. Further details will be posted here and through Chaos social media (@bristolchaos on Instragram).

Time and Location: 6:00PM, Thursday 16th November - Mott Lecture Theatre

Title: 'Looking for needles in haystacks: two ways to try and break the Standard Model of Particle Physics'

Lecturer: Prof. Helen Heath

Abstract:

I am currently involved with two particle physics experiments at CERN. The Compact Muon Solenoid experiment (CMS) and the NA62 experiment. These experiments both have the potential to explore new physics beyond the standard model but in different ways. I’ll contrast the two experiments and discuss some of the new physics we are looking for.

Lecturer Bio:

Prof Helen Heath first joined the Bristol Department of Physics studying for a PhD searching for charm with the NA32 experiment at CERN. Apart from 2 ½ years in Toronto she has been here ever since working on experiments at CERN and also at DESY in Hamburg.  As well as here role in Physics she is currently a University Education Director (Quality).
