Widening Participation

The School of Geographical Sciences is committed to fostering a diverse community of students from all different backgrounds, with particular focus on promoting access to higher education for under-represented groups.

  • Outreach
We offer a number of outreach events and activities to give school pupils an insight into what studying Geography at Bristol is really like.
  • Access to Bristol
This scheme is available to students taking A-Levels, BTECs or equivalents, and consists of a series of sessions held at the university with academics and current students. Completing this scheme also makes you eligible for the Access to Bristol bursary.
  • Contextual Offer
We make contextual offers to support prospective students from under-represented backgrounds gain admission to the School.
  • Access Postgrad scheme
The Access Postgrad scheme provides peer mentoring and skills development sessions to help current University of Bristol undergraduates decide whether postgraduate study is right for them.

You can read about the ambitious targets set by the university in our Access and Participation plan.
