Global Development research strand seminar series: Inundation forecasting in support of emergency response

25 May 2021, 2.00 PM - 25 May 2021, 3.00 PM

Dr Jeff Neal

via MS Teams

This seminar will present recent advances in regional scale flood inundation mapping over Africa and discuss experienced gained from attempts to forecast tropical cyclone exposure. Emergency bulletins were provided to national governments and humanitarian organisations based on modelling systems developed at ECMWF and University of Bristol. Did these top down modelling systems play a useful role in promoting or organising the emergency response and what lessons can be learnt to better prepare for future disasters?
