Ethics
The Ethics Committee is a group of staff and student representatives from the SoE. The aim of the committee is to raise ethical awareness and to engage with ethical issues arising from research.
All studies that involve human participants, their tissue and/or data should undergo an ethical review before any data collection activities can take place. The ethical review system and process for members of the School of Education is as follows:
Staff and Postgraduate Researchers (PGRs)
University Research Ethics Committees (RECs) review all staff and PGR applications for research ethics review. Information about the process including the committee schedule relevant to staff and PGRs can be found on the university web pages.
Additionally, the School of Education Ethics Sharepoint site includes a section that has gradually been developed to provide some help on research ethics. This will in due course be replaced by university level guidance and training.
MSc and Undergraduate students
The SoE Research Ethics Committee manages ethical review for Masters and Undergraduate Research Projects. Students can find the SoE REC committee timetable, templates and guidance on research ethics review on Blackboard.
- Blackboard areas for Masters students: Research ethics information is included in the units EDUCM5000 Introduction to Educational Inquiry and EDUCM1900 Dissertation
- Blackboard areas for Undergraduate students
Please note that Sharepoint is available to staff and PGRs and is the source of information on the SoE REC process, including committee dates, and some guidance. Unit Directors refer to Sharepoint when preparing the relevant Blackboard areas for Masters and Undergraduate Students.
