Scholarship in Economics Education

One of the largest Economics Education Group in the UK, we engage in scholarly activities in relation to what, how and who we teach, and analyse and shape the work and experiences of economics educators.

Our activities include:

  • Developing, trialling and evaluating teaching materials, assessment approaches, feedback strategies and teaching practices to enhance the student experience and learning outcomes;
  • Advancing scholarship and practice of skills development, employability and student engagement;
  • Contributing to curriculum developments and initiatives that shape the economics discipline more broadly;
  • Studying and shaping the experience of economics educators through research and training, and contributing to higher education policy and quality assurance;
  • Leading outreach in economics, including the study and promotion of campaigns to improve diversity, inclusion and widening participation;
  • Contributing to public engagement and the communication of economics to improve understanding among policymakers and the public;
  • Undertaking national and international consultancy for governments and corporations.

Our School of Economics is the host of the Economics Network, a national organisation that brings together economics educators devoted to improving economics education in the UK and beyond.

Group members have taken leadership roles in and contributed to major educational initiatives such as Discover Economics, a national campaign to promote the discipline to school students, as well as The CORE Project, an open curriculum project providing modern, research-informed teaching materials.

Our members contribute to all aspects of the development and scholarship of economics education through regional, national, and international networks, including the Economics Network, the Royal Economic Society, the South West Workshops in Economics Education, Teaching and Scholarship, and the European Economic Association.
