Macroeconomics
The Macroeconomics research group develops and combines innovative theoretical models with structural estimation techniques to conduct policy evaluations that are informed by both economic theory and real-world data.
We study a wide range of economic policies, from tax reforms to employment protection legislation, from monetary interventions to childcare policies. Bristol is one of the founding nodes of the Search and Matching (SaM) network and hosts the SaM junior workshop. We also organise an international conference on macroeconomics: the Bristol Macroeconomics Workshop (BMW).
Our research covers the following areas:
- Financial frictions
- Household decisions
- Search frictions in labour, money or product markets
- Structural econometrics
- Taxation
- The sources and consequences of income and wealth inequality
