Dr Alexander Edwards
Alexander Edwards (AJE) is a Lecturer in Aerosol Science.
AJE completed his undergraduate at The University of Manchester, graduating with a first-class BSc. (Hons) Mathematics degree in 2020. AJE then joined the EPSRC CDT in Fluid Dynamics at the University of Leeds, where he went on to complete an MSc. and PhD in Fluid Dynamics (2024), researching airborne transmission and associated infection risk, with particular focus on UK healthcare settings. AJE joined the University of Bristol in 2024 as a Lecturer in Aerosol Science. He is a member of the EPSRC CDT in Aerosol Science core team and is unit director of the first-year training unit ‘Computational and Data Tools’. AJE also acts as a personal tutor for CDT students.
AJE’s research interests include modelling airborne disease transmission, aerosol transport, indoor airflow and ventilation, and assessing infection and exposure risk, and the effectiveness of mitigation strategies in indoor environments. This uses a combination of mathematical and computational modelling to develop new approaches and techniques that better capture the dynamics of indoor environments. AJE has a particular interest in the application of these models to realistic settings, with a consideration of practical implications. He has a number of peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research at both national and international conferences.
AJE’s broader research interests include disease transmission, indoor air quality, mathematical biology and epidemiology, and fluid dynamics.
