Working or studying away

During your time at Bristol you may spend time studying or working abroad or on a placement in the UK as part of your degree scheme.

Before you go

Having an idea of what to expect when you arrive will help your transition. Knowledgeable students usuallly find settling in easier.

If you have already identified yourself as having mental health problems, speak to your local health services in your home country about how to cope with being away. Talk to them about prescriptions and how much to take if you are on medication.

When you arrive

You may feel disoriented, irritable, frustrated or homesick. Many of these feelings are completely normal. It is important to accept these feelings, recognise that they will pass and give yourself time to adjust to your new cultural setting.
