Access to the residences

The road entrance to Manor Hall's main site is on Lower Clifton Hill, which is one-way. You enter Lower Clifton Hill from the top of Constitution Hill.

Pedestrians access is via a number of routes: a gate between Sinclair House and Manor House (where York Place meets Clifton Road), by a flight of steps down from York Place into the car park, and via a gate by Richmond House on Clifton Road.

30-35 Richmond Terrace is a short distance away from the main hall site.  Please note that Richmond Terrace is one-way and entered from Queen's Road via Richmond Lane.

Travel directions

By Car 

Follow the University's directions for travel by car.

  • From the M32, follow the University directions initially, but once you're on the B4051 continue straight on past Woodland Road (don't turn into it).
  • At the next set of traffic lights, take the left hand lane and continue along Queen's Road into Triangle South.&nbsp
  • Bear left down under the bridge into Berkeley Place.
  • Take the second available right hand turn up onto Constitution Hill. Just before you have to give way at the top of the hill, turn right into Lower Clifton Hill (one-way).
  • The road entrance to Manor Hall is 150m down Lower Clifton Hill on the left. The entrance to the main building is at the far end of the driveway on the right.


On-site parking is by permit only, except for unloading at the start, or loading at the end of your tenancy. On-street parking is limited by the local Council residents' parking scheme. There is a multi-storey car park on Berkeley Place. To find the car park on leaving the hall's main site, turn left down Lower Clifton Hill and continue straight on until you meet Berkeley Place. Turn left and the car park entrance is about 50m on the left.

By Coach

Follow the University's directions for travel by coach.

There is a taxi rank immediately outside Marlborough Street Bus and Coach Station. It is a 5-10 minute taxi journey to the hall.

To walk takes around 20 minutes, follow the directions to the University until you reach the multi-storey car park. Continue straight on past the entrance to Woodland Road (don't turn into it), past the Wills Memorial tower and the City Museum on your right. Immediately after the museum, turn left across both carriageways at the pedestrian crossing. Go right on to the Triangle South. Bear left under the bridge into Berkeley Place and take the first right-hand turn onto Lower Clifton Hill. The entrance to the driveway of Manor Hall is near the top of Lower Clifton Hill.

By Train and bus

Follow the University's directions for travel by train.

From Bristol Temple Meads station's forecourt take the number 8 bus service to Clifton. The nearest bus stop to Manor Hall is at the Students' Union Building (also known as the Richmond Building) on Queen's Road. The Students' Union Building/Richmond Building is located on the corner of Queen's Road and Gordon Road. To reach Manor Hall, follow Gordon Road until it meets Meridian Place/Tottenham Place, turn right along Tottenham Place and York Place. You will see Manor Hall on the hillside below you to your left. There is a flight of steps from York Place down into the hall's car park.

Alternatively there is a taxi rank in the station forecourt. The taxi journey to Manor Hall normally takes 10-15 minutes but may take longer in peak traffic periods.

By Plane

Follow the University's directions for travel by plane.

If travelling into Bristol from Bristol International Airport by coach, take the Bristol International Flyer A1 coach service to Marlborough Street Bus and Coach Station and then follow the directions for walking. You can take a taxi from the airport (the journey is approximately 30 minutes depending on the traffic).
